Her achievements when she was a teenager in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the category of child prodigies. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin the capital of Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing sporting games. This passion was combined with an equally natural aptitude to perform. This is why she won the majority of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. By age 14 she was admitted to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre along with operatic music.
